Intracellular Ion Channels and Physiology Research Group

Our research focuses on establishing the molecular identity of organellar ion channels, elucidating their targeting mechanism, and studying their biophysical properties. We focus on how intracellular ion channels regulate cellular physiology by altering mitochondrial properties at the functional level. To understand their role in health and disease, our group is studying their role in cardioprotection from ischemia-reperfusion injury and functional role in the aging heart. The specific projects are:

  • Molecular identity and regulation of mitochondrial ion channels
  • Ion channels in exosomes
  • Regulation of organellar structure and function by intracellular ion channels
  • Role of intracellular ion channels in cardioprotection from ischemia-reperfusion injury.
  • Role of intracellular ion channels in the regulation of cardiac function and aging.
