Located in the countryside northwest of Cuzco, Peru, lies the vast site of Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu is a historical landmark, once believed to be a royal estate or religious site for the Incan people, before the inca empire was wiped out by the arrival of the spaniards in the 16th century. At 2,400 meters above sea level, Machu Picchu covers 32,592 hectares of mountain slopes, peaks and valleys. Being located in the the highlands of Peru, Machu Pichhu is a long for day hike, or modest four hour train ride up a mountain. Because of its’ boasting beauty and thrilling views, Machu Piccu is a well known tourist attraction and was named a seventh wonder of the world in 2007.
