shrivastava.35 GOALS

In hindsight, I plan to use the GOALS acronym to guide my academic career at OSU. To increase my global awareness, I hope to travel abroad through the Doctors without borders organization at OSU. Their travels focus on helping underprivileged areas in third world countries by providing them free primary care. Aside from this, I also plan on studying abroad. I don’t know which country I would like to study in, but most likely take part in a trip that I can afford or receive money for.

Next semester, I will take part in research under Cognitive Science head Dr. Rachel Holt. Her research focuses on the relationship between speech, psychology and neuroscience and I think this experience, combined with the other opportunities it opens up for me, will help me improve my scholarly inquiry as an undergraduate student. I hope that this research project will result in be writing my honors thesis and I hope that it is something I can learn from and commit to.

I also understand that academic enrichment is a part of my career here at OSU. To make sure that I remain academically challenged I plan on taking myriad honors courses by also ensuring that I have an overall balanced schedule. I understand that asking for help is never bad and will take full advantage of office hours and learning centers to ensure that my learning is thorough and beneath the surface. Moreover, I want to focus on actually understanding the content instead of just trying to get the best grades. I believe that being consistent will help me be successful.

To me, the best kind of leadership is silent leadership. I think that people who do more versus just talking about something are the people that are the most influential. To develop this skill, I have applied to and been accepted into General Body for Buckeyethon and ENCompass. Both philanthropy organizations require taking initiative and being passionate. These two things are important to me and I am glad to be a part of these clubs. I hope to work hard in both and eventually contribute innovative ideas or lead projects by the end of my undergraduate years. Ultimately, being extremely passionate about a couple of things and taking leadership initiatives in them will be more rewarding then spreading yourself too thin.

Going off of this, these groups will also allow me to address the service aspect of GOALS. By putting others before myself and by working hard so that others can achieve equity and comfort in their lives, I hope to learn more about myself. I think that these experiences will also allow me to develop my interpersonal skills and character. I know that I will continue to explore more options and that not everything is set in stone. My dynamic attitude, open mindset, and work ethic I hope, will allow me to succeed and hold up the name of such an accomplished university.
