Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. G.O.A.L.S.

  • Global Awareness: In order to fulfill the global awareness G.O.A.L.S, I plan to take courses, such as various histories, which broaden my perspectives and allow me to experience and learn about other cultures I may be unfamiliar with. I am also considering studying abroad to not only learn about other cultures around the world, but to be fully immersed in them as well. Learning about the various cultures around the world will help me better understand those around me, including future friends and colleagues.
  • Original Inquiry: To complete the original inquiry part of the G.O.A.L.S, I plan to participate in research related to my major, physics. I hope to work on both experimental and theoretical projects, with the supervision of the faculty in the physics department.  I also hope that my research will culminate with a thesis by the end of my undergraduate career. The research that I conduct during my time here will then hopefully lay the groundwork for future research during my career.
  • Academic Enrichment: I expect to complete this part of the G.O.A.L.S by choosing courses that both perk my interests and challenge me at the same time. I will accomplish this by taking various honors courses. These honors courses will be more academically rigorous than their normal counterparts, and I will hopefully be challenged. I will also enrich myself academically outside of the classroom by participating in research. With this academic enrichment, I hope to be better prepared for whatever comes next in my life, whether it be graduate school or a career.
  • Leadership Development: I plan to fulfill this part of the G.O.A.L.S by being a leader in and out of the classroom. For example, I currently grade for CSE 1222, during which I help students with concepts that are taught throughout the class. I also plan to be a leader when it comes to research by helping my peers and collaborating with them effectively. These leadership opportunities will help me grow as a person and hopefully help me in my future career.
  • Service Engagement: In order to complete this part of the G.O.A.L.S, I will participate in different volunteering organizations. For example, I am considering joining a service club in order to help the community and those around me. I am also participating in a service learning project at Waterman farms for my Bio class, during which I will be helping with community service. This, along with the rest of the G.O.A.L.S will help me grow as a person and prepare me for whatever is to come in the rest of my life.
