G.O.A.L.S.

[ “G.O.A.L.S.” is a place where students write about how their planned, current, and future activities may fit into the Honors & Scholars G.O.A.L.S.: Global Awareness, Original Inquiry, Academic Enrichment, Leadership Development, and Service Engagement.

  • Global Awareness: During the summer after my freshman year, I studied abroad in China and had an amazing experience. I learned so much about Chinese culture, traditions, food, and language. Traveling to a foreign country helped me gain a new perspective of the world and make connections with people from across the globe. I plan to continue to expand my global awareness by working with organizations that help tackle issues faced by certain countries and I also hope to continue to travel.
  • Original Inquiry: Getting involved in research is one of my top priorities during my undergraduate years at OSU and am currently am apart of a  group doing research on metastatic breast cancer. Research is important because not only will it help consolidate my career goals, but also build a foundation for future learning. I hope to have my own independent project in the future, in which I will write my own thesis and experimental design. This will help expand my scientific inquiry and develop important problem-solving skills.
  • Academic Enrichment:  I am currently a biology major and human nutrition on the pre-med track and as a student here at OSU. I want to challenge myself academically and take coursework that will force me to think critically, solve problems on my own, and expand my realm of knowledge.
  • Leadership Development: Currently, I am the health committee director for a student organization at OSU known as Advocates for Women of the World, where we advocate for global gender equality through awareness and action-based efforts. As a leader of this organization, I am working to develop my interpersonal and creative thinking skills.
  • Service Engagement: I am involved in a number of service-related activities. I volunteer as a donor ambassador for the American Red Cross and am also a regular volunteer at the Grant Medical Center. In addition, I help tutor students at Graham Elementary School and am volunteering in an inpatient unit at the Wexner Center. This year, I also plan to volunteer at free health clinics in the local Columbus area and help people in the community get connected to healthcare resources.
