This fall SHEROS partnered with our brother club RAS for a back to school bash for students in need. As an organization, we believe in giving back to the community. We had tons of fun with food, music, bounce houses, giveaways, and a dance party!

One of the primary goals for our student organization is to make sure female student athletes have a safe space where they can be included and develop essential life skills to set them up for success after college. We believe in the importance of community service and we want all students to feel like they belong and have a purpose where they are in life. This is why we decided to throw a back to school bash where we gave out school supplies and backpacks to students grades kindergarten through sixth grade. There are many families in our community who cannot afford to purchase school supplies for their children, and we felt that it was important for these students to receive the same supplies and feel like they fit in with their classmates.

Our organization loves to give back to the community and we had such a blast reaching out to young students. We were able to interact with many kids and encourage them as the school year was coming up. We look forward to more events like the back to school bash in the future and further events to reach our community.

Our event “I Don’t See Nothin’ Wrong…” on March 1st went off without a hitch.

We convened to watch sections of the Lifetime documentary Surviving R. Kelly. SHEROS partnered with AYL to discuss how the documentary relates to sexual assault in our own community.

The turnout was great! We provided Chick-fil-A to all who came, which definitely helped bring people in. We were surprised to have such a large number of men—a great thing to see for an event based around a sensitive yet important topic.

The success of this event will hopefully encourage those present to be more vocal about the issue of sexual assault in the community.
