Career

When I originally applied to be apart of the scholars program I had a very different outlook for my life then as I do now, but the difference between the two is that I feel like I’m starting to figure out what I really want for my life. Through scholars I have been able to choose a major, business, that I feel like is really the best fit for me, and though this major may not ultimately lead me to a career in the health science field I have learned a lot from the activities and lectures in scholars regardless.

Not only has scholars taught me how to create a killer résumé, I’ve also learned to look more critically at the world and challenge previously held conceptions to bring about change and do some good – like the work done by the lawyer in the TEDx talk about looking at health holistically and prescribing patients things to meet their basic needs, like food and shelter, not just treating case by case illnesses.

On a more personal level, scholars has encouraged me to look at my own wellbeing and take time for myself to meditate while also motivating me to work harder. Our activity on personal health and wellness showed me that I needed to take better care of myself, and as a result of been making conscious choices to eat better and exercise more – healthy practices I hope to continue throughout college and into my adult life. The faculty office hour’s assignment has also encouraged me to be aware of all the resources available to me around campus to help me academically, which I definitely intend on using during my time here.

Overall I feel like I have developed an outline for the direction I want my life to head in and a scholar has left me feeling positive about achieving my goals.

About Me

Hi there and welcome to my e-portfolio! My name is Katie Sheridan and I’m a first year at the Ohio State University. Currently I am an undecided on what to major in; however, I am leaning towards pursuing a career in the medical field or in law. As a student in high school I was very motivated academically and pushed myself to achieve the best grades I could. Outside of school I was very involved in theatre and service organizations which helped me grow as a leader, a person, and were activities I really enjoyed. In college I intend to hold myself to the same academic standards as well as join organizations similar to my past interest and branch out and try new things. Through my involvement in Health Science Scholars I would like to not only research potential majors and find my future career but also make new friends, relationships, grow as a leader and better the community through service.
