Hello! My name is Shelby Muntz. I’m a fourth-year Forestry, Fisheries, and Wildlife major in SENR with a minor in Entomology.
I’m primarily interested in wildlife and insects, but to fully understand those things you have to account for the ecology of everything around them. So, I enjoy learning plant ID in addition to my wildlife and insect classes. Plant ID has been important for multiple jobs I’ve had, including with the National Park Service and in the Gardiner Lab at OSU. I’ve only formally learned woody plant ID before, so I’m looking forward to getting into the herbaceous species!
My coat of arms is below. Though I know very little about ID, I love finding fungi outdoors and they’re super interesting to me. This also translates to a lot of mushroom decor in my apartment. I worked with bees this summer and loved the job, so both felt fitting for my symbol. Also related to bees, I was very afraid of them until just a couple of years ago, so my motto feels like a reminder that things can change and you may like things you don’t expect to.

And this is me! This was taken in Redwoods National Park last summer. If you ever have the opportunity, I cannot recommend visiting enough.
