Global Awareness –
It is important to maintain global awareness in order to interact with those who are different than you. Through taking classes that incorporate global diversity (Theatre 2100H), I had the opportunity to build up this recognition of the variety of people that exist. In addition, by being involved on campus I’ve been able to meet many different people who all provide their own form of uniqueness to the world. In doing this, I have been able to develop and reinforce my global awareness as a student.
Original Inquiry –
This past semester, I joined the Jackman Biochemistry Laboratory as an undergraduate researcher. This, more than anything, has helped teach me about the inner workings of the scientific method and get some hands-on experience with it. I hope to continue working in the lab and potentially work towards an undergraduate thesis.
Academic Enrichment –
I have a very mechanistic, visual way of thinking. In addition, my interest in science and the idea of improving the quality of life led me to choose a biochemistry major with a premed focus. I picked up a video arts minor because of my draw towards filmmaking (primarily due to the visual aspects), and that helped round out my college experience a bit more. I hope to use the GE’s I chose to continue to pinpoint minor interests I have (i.e. greek mythology) and I hope to commit to maintaining a dedicated and motivated look at what I’m learning so that I can reinforce my mind throughout these four years.
Leadership Development –
I’m serving as President on Residence Halls Advisory Council next year, and the climb to this position has aided me from a teamwork-based standpoint along with a leadership standpoint. I hope to use this experience in the future as a medical professional, applying my skills to the many leadership positions that will come in my career.
Service Engagement –
In Residence Halls Advisory Council, one of our pillars is a devotion to creating and developing community. Logically, part of this is acting as a service to the community we live in. So, through RHAC, I’m able to put on programs which can give back the environment in which I live.
