As an honors student, I have many goals and dreams for my future. In order to be as successful as I can be, I believe I should follow the G.O.A.L.S page to guide me and help me develop a plan. In terms of global awareness, I plan to study abroad. As a Colombian girl living in the United States, I have not had the opportunity to experience and appreciate other cultures beside my own because I have not had the proper exposure. I plan to study abroad as an upperclassmen in order to strengthen my global awareness. As a pre-medical student, I believe research is extremely important to the development of my career. As a second-semester freshman, I plan to apply to work in a laboratory the following semester. I will use this experience in the lab to strengthen my desire to learn and make a difference. As an honors student on a pre-medical track, academic enrichment is incredibly important to me. I enjoy being challenged and expanding my knowledge. I chose to study neuroscience on this track because I am fascinated by the inner workings of the human body, most specifically the brain, which is the control center. I will use the degree in neuroscience in medical school to hopefully become a neurosurgeon or a cardiothoracic surgeon. The General Education courses that I plan to take will give me a different taste of college education. As a STEM-driven student, I have not had the opportunity to take very many unrelated courses. However, I plan to take courses outside of my STEM home-base in order to fulfill the general education requirements and allow myself a bit of academic freedom and a change of scenery. As a freshman, I have already started to search for and join organizations on campus. By joining as a first year I believe I will have the opportunity to build alliances and have experiences that would make me a potential fit leader for one of the school organizations I am a part of. I am passionate about working as a leader and plan to apply for leadership positions in different clubs and organizations throughout my undergraduate career. Finally, I am extremely passionate about service and volunteering. I have already become a member of the Crisis Text Line and am on track to begin volunteering at Riverside Methodist this year. I believe volunteering is crucial to maintaining good self esteem as well as a meaningful extracurricular.
