Year in Review

G.O.A.L.S.
Global Awareness: Through my involvement in PASA, an organization for Pakistani American students, and my volunteering experiences in the city of Columbus, I have grown a deeper understanding of diversity and fostering it.
Original Inquiry: With my theatre minor, the courses I have taken and the productions I have worked on have nurtured the inquisitive side of my mind.
Academic Enrichment: Honors & Scholars students pursue academic excellence through rigorous curricular experiences beyond the university norm both in and out of the classroom. The courses I’ve taken in my biology major have contributed to this academic rigor greatly.
Leadership Development: With my positions in PASA, USG, and College Mentors, I’ve been able to step up and take on leadership roles.
Service Engagement: I’ve committed over 80 hours of service in just my sophomore year alone.
Career
In the future, with courses like Biology 3401, Chemistry 1210/1220/2540 and others, and Statistics, I will be able to attend medical school and become a physician. The experiences of College Mentors for Kids, volunteering at Nationwide Children’s hospital, and participating in a research lab will aid me in preparing for the personal/clinical side of this career. Working with children, especially, prepares me every day for working as a pediatrician at a children’s hospital in the future. Once I graduate medical school, I will specialize in pediatrics and continue this path, using the courses, organizations, and experiences I’ve had in college thus far.
Artifacts
The day I voted for the first time was one of the greatest days of my life. My first vote in the American election was for the first female nominee of a major party. This moment meant so much to me, and I cannot wait until I’m watching the election results from my college dorm, remembering what it was like to watch the results from my home at younger ages. I’ve learned that it is so important to not only be opinionated and involved, but also effective in the issues that concern you. Vote, vote, vote!
About Me
Mehek Sheikh is a first-year student and Mount Leadership Society Scholar. She is majoring in Biology with a Pre-Medicine track, and enjoys science and the arts. In high school, she completed internships with Nationwide Children’s Hospital, and submitted research and presentations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. She was also involved in theatre and choir, and played the role of Lady Macbeth in her high school production of Macbeth. She plans to attend medical school after college, and looks forward to her future at The Ohio State University.
