Jera Shehorn BSN, RN, CPN

Hello, Welcome to My Professional Portfolio!

About me: My name is Jera Shehorn. I am a Registered Nurse with sixteen years of experience in pediatric nursing. I graduated from Northwest State Community College in 2004 with my Associate’s Degree of Applied Science in Nursing. I went on to obtain my Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing in 2006 from Bowling Green State University. I began my nursing career at Promedica Toledo Children’s Hospital as a pediatric nurse in 2004. I decided I had a passion for education and entered the teaching field at The University of Toledo as an Associate Professor for the College of Nursing teaching pediatrics in 2009. I obtained my national certification for pediatric nursing in 2018 becoming a Certified Pediatric Nurse. I also hold certifications in Basic Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and Prevent Blindness Certified Vision Screener.

I decided to change career paths and ventured into school nursing in 2019. Currently, I am the school nurse for Northwood Local Schools, a PreK-12 grade campus with around 1000 students. I wanted to further my professional development as a school nurse and chose to complete the School Nurse Licensure Certification at The Ohio State University to become a Licensed School Nurse with the Ohio Board of Education. I am looking forward to graduation in April 2020 and applying for my ODE Professional Licensure. I have found my nursing passion in a career I find challenging, rewarding, and fulfilling as a school nurse.

About this portfolio: This portfolio is intended to be a showcase of my experiences and proficiency in school nursing practice. I have included an updated resume, professional work, and links to contact me if needed.
