2019 Ohio Sheep and Hay Day Programming

Calling all small and large ruminant producers. The Ohio State University Department of Animal Sciences and Ohio Sheep Improvement Association would like to announce that the 2019 Ohio Sheep and Hay Day will be held on Saturday, July 13 at the Jackson Agriculture Research Station (JARS) located at 019 Standpipe Rd., Jackson, OH 45640.

This year’s program will offer attendees the opportunity to visit one of Ohio State’s outlying research stations that focuses on efficient ruminant livestock and forage production. This programs aim is to provide producers with the tools they need to continue increasing on-farm livestock and hay production.

A list of programming topics include:

  • Jackson Agricultural Research Station Update and Review
  • Homemade and Purchased Sheep Equipment for Easy and Efficient Production Use
  • Alternative Grazing Systems Using High Tannin and Warm Season Forages
  • On-farm Data Collection – How NSIP Can Benefit You?
  • Hay Making Process Demonstrations

As always, a trade show will take place at the event where attendees may visit and purchase small ruminant supplies and equipment. New to this year, in conjunction with the Hay Day theme, local forage harvesting and hay making equipment dealers will also be present to address any questions before, during, and after the live demonstrations.

In addition, our children’s program will continue this year with fun and educational sheep-themed activities structured for youth ages 4-12. This program will be held in the Jackson County Extension Office, located on the research station.

Registration, which is paid at the door, includes a lamb lunch that is $15.00 for OSIA members and $25.00 for non-OSIA members. NO pre-registration is required. OSIA memberships are available for purchase at the event.
