Department of Animal Sciences Honors Ohio Shepherd

Steve Boyles, OSU Extension Beef Specialist, The Ohio State University

On April 13th, the Department of Animal Sciences will celebrate the achievements of those who have enhanced student education and enriched the animal science industry through the annual Animal Sciences Annual Recognition Reception. Several prestigious student awards will also be presented.

This year, the Department will induct Mike Stitzlein into the Animal Sciences Hall of Fame. Recipients of the Animal Sciences Hall of Fame have demonstrated superior skill and achieved success in the field of Animal Science for themselves and their families. They have also practiced service to others through giving their time, energy, and thoughtfulness in the local community.

Mr. Stitzlein earned his induction into the Hall of Fame through his continued leadership in the agricultural community. Mr. Stitzlein is a 1990 graduate of The Ohio State University Department of Animal Sciences. Mike has gone on to become a sheep industry leader and served as First Vice-President of the Ohio Sheep Improvement Association and he has served on the Ohio Sheep and Wool Program Board of Directors. Mike has openly shared his management system, flock genetic design, and judging ability with many interested shepherds.

Congratulations Mike!
