The past two semesters, I was able to learn more about organic chemistry and grow as a student. Before taking ochem, I was terrified of the subject based on all of the horror stories told by upperclassman. However, after having an amazing professor and getting to know the subject, I have come to love this field of science. The image above is a picture of my model kit that allowed me to understand the confusing topics of enantiomers and diastereomers.
At the beginning of the year, other bio-scholars and I decided to attend the heart walk. The Heart Walk is the American Heart Association’s premiere event for raising funds to save lives from this country’s No. 1 and No. 5 killers – heart disease and stroke. From this experience, I was able to see how participating and donating to a cause can have such a big impact on the lives in many. At the event, a survivor of a heart transplant spoke about how important it is to find a cure to these terrible diseases. After only being at OSU for 2 weeks, this event allowed me to explore Columbus for the first time and truly recognize it as my new home.
