My name is Zoë Shay-Tannas. I am a third-year Eminence Fellow, industrial design major, and D1 fencer at The Ohio State University. This past summer, I interned at Rogue Fitness, headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. As the Product Development intern, I designed and released the Rogue Stainless Straight Lat Bar, patent pending. This internship went above and beyond the skills and knowledge I gained in the classroom. From 3D modeling, to prototyping with CNC machinists, all the way to collaborating with engineers for full scale manufacturing and assembly, this was an incredible summer opportunity.
As a Division 1 fencer and industrial design major, my time is split evenly between athletics and academics. This year, I plant to achieve two goals: one athletic and one academic. As a competitive D1 fencer my ultimate goal is to qualify for NCAA fencing championships with the aim to win gold. As a passionate industrial designer, I intend to secure an internship at a local Columbus design firm. I had many significant summer takeaways. In particular, working at Rogue Fitness taught me that I am capable of achieving anything I put my heart into. Achieving these goals is no easy feat. It will require much work and discipline. However, with the Eminence program’s support and numerous opportunities it affords, I am excited to see where my junior year takes me.
