- time management – proper time management will get you far. If you don’t manage your time well, you will not succeed.
- note taking – note taking does nothing if you don’t understand what you wrote.
- use good sources – evaluate the credibility of your source before you use it! A bad source will ruin your paper/assignment.

module 6
Hey guys! I hope everyone had a good Spring 2020 semester! I know I did! This semester was definitely one of the craziest that many of us will ever experience ever again – at least I hope no other semesters are this crazy! Luckily, the summer is rapidly approaching so we will all get a much needed break. This will be my last blog post for this class.
In module six I learned quite a bit. This module was about motivation! I found that quite fitting since the last month of the school year is when most people start slacking off and giving up. The most important thing that I learned was that your environment plays a big factor in if you are motivated or not. Your physical, social, and online environments are huge factors in if you get your work done or not. If you’re listening to rock music with seven friends outside at a bar, you’re way less likely to do work than if you were in your room, at your desk, listening to classical music.
I have already implemented changing your environment technique and it has helped me! I started listening to classical music instead of music that I can sing along to an dry focus greatly improved. I can continue to use this method and change my physical environment and try to work at my desk instead of my dining room table. One thing I would tell other students is to not lose focus on their goals.
Have a great summer!
Module 5
Hey guys! I hope learning from home is going well! I know that I have found it a tad bit more challenging to stay focused since I am home all day and I started a new job. Module 5 taught me many thing that will be helpful for my future classes. The things I learned will be the most helpful for future English classes and literature classes. The things I learned will be helpful for any research based or paper heavy class.
The most important thing that I learned is that there’s a difference between searching and researching. Searching typically has one right answer and many wrong answers but researching will have many answers.
Another thing that I learned was how to “pre-search”. To pre-search, you have to figure out what you will be researching and what you are hoping to find.
The final thing that I learned was credibility of a source. Credibility is composed of a few things: reliability, quality, and utility. For a source to be reliable, the source has to the contact info of the author, and their credentials. It must come from a reputable source and be peer reviewed. There are six things that a source has to have to meet the quality qualifications. Finally, there are three things that a source has to have to meet the utility requirements.
Log on next week to find out what the requirements are!
module 3
Hey guys! I hope everyone had a a great school week. I learned quite a few things from this module that would be helpful for my fellow college students. These tips will be especially helpful since OSU will be having class online for a while. I learned a few things about time management and tips and techniques to increase productivity.
Tip number one: put your phone down. Social media / streaming services/ your friends will still be there after you finish your assignment. The sooner you get your homework done, the sooner that you can get back to Hulu or Netflix or instagram.
Tip number two: Break your big assignments into smaller chunks. It will seem like less pressure if you do not bog yourself down with all of your homework at once. If you decide to spend like fifteen minutes doing an assignment then you will be better off than you would have been if you had not done any of the assignment.
Tip number three: schedule when you are going to do your homework and stick to your schedule. If you schedule when you are going to do your homework, you will not be scrambling to get everything done at the last minute before it is due.
Good luck with class this upcoming week and good luck with online classes!
Module 2
Hey guys! I learned quite a few things in this module that can be helpful for students everywhere. These tips are helpful for online and traditional students. The thing that I liked the most from module two was the slide about collaboration tips. Group assignments can be awful! Between the lack of effort from some students to the lack of time to meet up with your fellow group members, group assignment are sometimes dreadful! Slide 22 and 23 of the lesson materials talked about four different helpful collaboration methods. Those methods included: Trello, OneNote, Clack, and GoogleDocs. My favorite collaboration tool from the list is GoogleDocs. I have been using GoogleDocs to do group projects since I was in high school.
I have not had any group projects this year thus far so I have not been able to put any of these methods into practice. But, in my past usage of DoogleDocs, I have found that it can be very helpful! In the future, I will definitely continue using GoogleDocs for future projects and I may even try the other methods! One piece of advice for other students is to try to not get frustrated when working on group work. If you haven’t found a collaboration method that works for you and your group. Try some other ones until you find the one that works best for your group!
