- Global Awareness: Students cultivate and develop their appreciation for diversity and each individual’s unique differences. For example, consider course work, study abroad, involvement in cultural organizations or activities, etc.
I am currently, and will continue to be, involved in an indian fusion dance team called Buckeye Fusion. We learn several different forms of indian dance and perform at competitions, gigs, and different school programs. This group will allow me to meet and connect with lots of different people who have performed lots of different types of dances to come together to create a team of their own. There are people from lots of different backgrounds coming together, enriching each other experiences.
- Original Inquiry: Honors & Scholars students understand the research process by engaging in experiences ranging from in-class scholarly endeavors to creative inquiry projects to independent experiences with top researchers across campus and in the global community. For example, consider research, creative productions or performances, advanced course work, etc.
I am extremely interested in being involved in research during my time here. I am looking forward to finding a researcher who will be able to give me a goal or topic that I can spend my time researching and finding insights on. I will also be taking advanced honors courses throughout my time at the Ohio State University and will have several enriching and challenging experiences.
- Academic Enrichment: Honors & Scholars students pursue academic excellence through rigorous curricular experiences beyond the university norm both in and out of the classroom.
I am very interested in neuroscience and studying the brain. I chose my major because I have always been interested in studying the brain, even as a young girl. I would always ask my parents questions about why we do certain things or how certain parts of the brain works. This curiosity is still one of the driving forces in my decision to choose neuroscience as my major. The courses I have taken will prepare me for understanding basic scientific concepts needed for my future education. The courses I will take in the future will continue to reflect my desire to challenge myself and learn the most that I can reasonably.
- Leadership Development: Honors & Scholars students develop leadership skills that can be demonstrated in the classroom, in the community, in their co-curricular activities, and in their future roles in society.
I am involved in a team called Buckeye Fusion. Every practice or performance, I try to be a leader by example and remain a positive, encouraging, and supportive team member. As someone with a lot of experience in two specific dance forms that we use, I help and advise others based on my knowledge and experience. In the future, however, I hope to become one of the captains and develop even more leadership skills by making choreography and managing the team.
- Service Engagement: Honors & Scholars students commit to service to the community.]
I plan to be involved in a lot of volunteering throughout my years here. I am interested in joining RAM: Remote Area Medical and provide the people in the areas with less medical help with clinical care. I have a lot of the same goals as this organization such as to aid in healthcare and to help provide for the community. The fact that so many places do not have adequate healthcare speaks to how our healthcare system is flawed and underserving the population. I also plan to do volunteering in a more structured schedule through another organization which could include volunteering for Hands Against Hunger or any other number of organizations.
