Project Based Learning: A Multimedia Project Proposal
Topic for instruction:
Personalization in education and instructional strategies for support
Target learners:
Elementary teachers in a progressive elementary school- as a 1:1 school district, our teachers are somewhat comfortable using technology in their daily activities in an attempt to personalize learning; however some have not considered Project Based Learning as an instructional strategy. Many teachers have done projects and see the value of finding authentic connections to student interest, and in providing student voice and choice, but they may not be aware of how to create a high quality experience and assessment or of how PBL works as a whole. Progressive educators believe in student-led learning, so PBL could be a great way to connect to their core beliefs.
Learning objectives:
Learning Objective for Infographic: Given the infographic, teachers will identify elements of Project-Based Learning.
Learning Objective for Interactive learning object with audio: Given the multimedia, teachers will understand personalization and explore one strategy.
Learning objective for interactive learning object with quizzing: Given the multimedia, teachers will understand personalization and explore one strategy.
Proposed products:
Infographic: I plan to create an infographic that explains the Gold Standards, or elements of Project-Based Learning
Interactive learning object with audio: I plan to create an opportunity to learn about personalization in education and consider various instructional strategies.
Interactive learning object with quizzing: I plan to create an opportunity for teachers to self-check for understanding personalization in education.
Justification: Each product is appropriate for the learning objective because the infographic will serve to connect the topic of personalization to the teachers’ backgrounds since all teachers have seen the strategic plan before, whether or not they have really examined it. It will help make connections between what they’ve seen before and something new: potential strategies for supporting personalization, like PBL.
Specific multimedia design principles that will be applied to each of the three multimedia products:
All articles will meet the standards for the following principles:
Multimedia principle of showing concepts with a combination of words and graphics
Segmenting principle: all three multimedia objects cover parts of PBL to make the idea more accessible (although I’m not sure if each part is small enough or if I need to revise)
Contiguity principle: graphics closely match words and descriptions
Coherence principle: making sure all material is related and necessary
Personalization principle: language will be less formal and more conversational
