Project Statement

My goal for this project was to rewrite the traditional narrative of chess and model it around the Greek goddesses of Earth and Moon. These goddesses have always been a beautifully contrasting couple. Together, they add a sense of harmony to the chess set. My side, the Mother Nature side, has many natural forms found on Earth and each form represents a chess piece and its abilities. The Moon Goddess side was going to be made of acrylic because acrylic is clear, like air/ space. Acrylic is such a beautiful material,  and it really makes the details of each piece pop out.

Reflection

I learned how to adapt my project expectations around the problems I faced, and my pieces came out amazing, even if it wasn’t the original plan. There were many challenges along the way, and some of those challenges resulted in mistakes but I took my mistakes, learned from them, and grew from them. I was working against time at one point and I learned that there is no benefit to rushing because rushing leads to mistakes being overlooked. I also learned that scaling is important, as well as estimating the physics of a piece before it is cut. All my mistakes led me to this gorgeous outcome. In the future, I know that it is always beneficial to have multiple backup plans.
