SOURCES OF FUNDING FOR FIELD CAMP

 

Here are some external sources of funding for Field Camp.  Please note some of these may require CV’s, essays and letters of recommendation from faculty so start the application process soon.

Also, some of these organizations may require a membership to apply.  Membership fees vary but are as little as $10 for students.

American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG) National Scholarship Program

** Application deadline February 1st **

To assist students with college education costs and to promote student participation in the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG).  Scholarship awards in the amount of $1,000.00 – $3,000 each will be made to eligible students attending a college or university in the U.S. Scholarships are intended to be used to support tuition and/or room and board.

National Association of Geoscience Teachers (NAGT) Scholarship for Field Studies

** Application deadline February 14th **

Requires endorsement from a faculty member (from OSU or from your institution).

NAGT makes several $750 awards to undergraduate students to facilitate their study of field geoscience. These awards, previously given to students who attend a traditional summer field camp, are now available for students attending field-based courses at any time of year.  The intent of the awards is to support students’ participation in intensive field courses in any aspect of geoscience.

American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) Foundation Grant

** Application deadline March 31st**

The AAPG Foundation’s L. Austin Weeks (LAW) Undergraduate Grant program annually awards deserving undergraduate level geoscience students and student-led geoscience associations (student chapters, associations and clubs) with $500 grants.

Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) Foundation Scholarships

** Application deadline March 1st**

The SEG offers a range of different scholarship opportunities. Funds provided may be applied to tuition, books, and fees.  Scholarships range from $500 to $10,000 USD per academic year; average awards are approximately $3,700.

GSA ExxonMobil Field Camp Scholar Award

** Application deadline March 23rd **

Application available in early-mid February

This award is for undergraduate students to attend summer field camp. Twenty students will be awarded $2,000 each to attend the field camp of their choice based on diversity, economic/financial need, and merit.

Beardsley-Kuper Field Camp Scholarship Fund

** Application deadline February 1st **

Grants (up to $3,500) from the AEG Foundation Beardsley-Kuper Geology Field Camp Scholarship Fund are intended to support geology field camp costs with applied environmental and engineering geology that will be useful to the student’s future profession as an engineering or environmental geologist.

Association for Women Geoscientists Maria Luisa Crawford Field Camp Scholarships

** Application deadline February 14th **

This program encourages promising young women who pursue geoscience careers through attendance at field camp. Two $750 scholarships are awarded annually through a competitive process.
