Artifact: SkillsUSA National Competition Ohio Team Shirt

This shirt has a particular significance to me. When I was a senior in high school, I competed in medical terminology through the organization SkillsUSA, which is an organization that hosts competitions for various vocational areas. I won first place in the regional and state level competitions, so I received the opportunity to move on to the national competition in Louisville, Kentucky. In Louisville, every competitor from a particular state received a unique shirt for their state. This was the shirt that was given to all Ohio competitors that were present. It is special to me because my time spent studying and competing in medical terminology really helped build my interest and understanding of medicine and anatomy of the human body. I learned how each body system specifically worked and abnormal diseases and conditions that were associated with them. I feel that background in medical terminology has given me a solid base of knowledge to give me an edge in competing for medical school. How many people can claim that they were the best medical terminology scholar of high schools in 2015 (4th best in the nation)? Although I did not place in the national competition, it was still a wonderful experience that ultimately built up a genuine interest in medicine for me. artifact photo
