Environmental Sustainability and Natural Resource Management in the Caribbean

Learn about issues of environmental sustainability in the context of the Dominican Republic.  Specifically learn about reforestation efforts and issues related to air and water quality.  Engage in service-learning outside of Santo Domingo with local community partners to create water filtration systems for community residents.  Compare and contrast Dominican agricultural practices with practices in the U.S.

Accepted students will enroll in total of three autumn semester credit hours (ENR 5797.07) in order to participate in this program.  Prior to departure, students will meet during second session for 1 credit hour.  Pre-departure content is aimed at providing important context regarding current environmental, political, cultural, and social issues in the Dominican Republic.  During winter break, students will earn two credit hours in-country.
