Sustaining Human Societies & the Environment
Explore environmental issues through natural and social science lenses during a 3.5 week program in North Queensland, Australia. Travel to Australia’s wet tropics, outback, and coral reef to study unparalleled biodiversity. Special attention is paid to natural water systems and the impact industries like agriculture and tourism have on overall water quality. Participate in service projects with the Australian Wildlife Conservancy and support inshore coral reef restoration efforts. Assist field-based surveys on the Great Barrier Reef and of koala populations on Magnetic Island. Learn about the impacts of colonization on Australian Aboriginal groups and Australia’s native wildlife.
Accepted students will enroll in total of six May session credit hours (ENR 5797.01 and 5797.02) in order to participate in this program. Prior to departure, students are required to attend a half-day orientation offered by the School of Environment and Natural Resources.
