Columbus To Do List #2

North Market: On Saturday, November 17th, my roommates and I decided to go on an adventure to the North Market in Columbus. We hopped on the CODA bus and rode it straight down till we got close to the market and then walked the last block there. While at the market we decided to get lunch and a few other treats. The best part of the trip was hands down the food. For lunch, I bought a slice of lasagne from one of the stalls. The lasagne was huge and was so great it basically melted in your mouth. The part I least liked about the trip was how crowded it is at the market and as my roommate put it “the chair bloodbath” that occurs when finding a place to sit and eat upstairs. In addition to the lasagne, my roommates and I decided to by some macarons. As you can see in the picture above, they showed some restraint when buying and got each two, meanwhile I bought four, but they were fantastic. I would 100% recommend everyone visit the market for the food, but just be careful not to over indulge on it!

Artifact 2

My Plants-Although they might not look like much to someone, my little plants mean quite a bit to me. I‘ve had these plants for only a couple of months, but caring for them has provided me with comfort. Providing care for these plants gives me a sense of responsibillity and keeps my focus off of sad thoughts. Two of the plants pictured are in pots that I painted at two seperate events. In fact, all three plants were recieved at different events themselves. From left to right we have, a plant and pot I painted and recieved from the Recess event that helped deal with mental health, the middle I painted and recieved from an RA event, and the last plant I obtained at the involvement fair at the start of the semester.

Artifact 1

Art Show (Portfolio Prep.) – Art has been a huge part of my life since I was little. My love for art and creating it came from my dad. My dad used to draw my sister and me our stuffed animals when we were younger and we loved it. My dad took notice in our interest and started bringing home these huge rolls of paper for my sister and me to draw on. From those days on I continued to do art on and off up through high school where I took a class called Portfolio Prep my senior year. Port Prep was my first and best class of my day where I (and about 15 other kids) made art with the end goal being to have good pieces for the main event; the end of the year art show. Being in Port Prep (the top art class) meant that you were able to create an art booth for the show with all your art in it (Mine is the pictures above). Being in this class has shown me, even more, my love of art and has inspired me to not stop creating even in college, which is why I choose to pursue engineering where both my interest and math/science and art could show through.

Columbus To Do List #1

Fourth Street: For our first journey to Columbus together, my peer group ventured out to a little bar and grill called Fourth Street. This was the group’s second attempt at doing a Columbus journey as for the first time we had no documentation that we actually went somewhere. We went to the bar and grill on October 25th. Overall, the best part of the experience was being able to bond more with my peer group. Everyone in the group is a very different individual and it’s interesting to hear about everyone’s lives and potential futures. In addition, it was fun to walk there and gain more insight into college from Paulina. I can’t say the trip was one of educational value, but I can say that if we go back I should definitely order nachos because Paulina’s and Hana’s nachos were huge for the price. Overall, I would totally go back as a group to hang out or even with others because on Thursday’s the burgers are only $3 and that’s good when you’re a broke college kid.

About Me

Hi, my name is Mikaela Sellers, and I’m currently a Computer Science pre-major at The Ohio State University. I spent the past two years working hard at my job as a party hostess at Swings N Things. Now that I’m away at school I devote my time to volunteering in Humanitarian Engineering Scholars and going to my local recreation center. I’ve always had an interest in creating something art related as well as using STEM to make it possible. Because of this,  while I’m at The Ohio State University I hope to achieve my Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science as well as pursue a potential minor and video game design. During my time pursuing my degree, I hope to spend time exploring OSU and the city of Columbus, meeting new people, having new experiences, and becoming the best version of me I can be. My overall current aspirations are to graduate college in four years with a specialization and video game design and either join a company to develop a game or become my own developer. Although I look forward and are unsure of my future,  I want to make these next four years the most exciting time of my life.

My Top 5 Strengths

  • Input
    • I connect to my top strength Input for it’s described as wanting to know more. I personally love to gather information on various things I’m interested in be it a game,  a job, or even a person/group.
  • Restorative
    • My strength Restorative describes me because when I have a problem I am able to work out what’s wrong and begin to fix it. I usually do this by talking through it in my head and coming up with a solution.
  • Empathy
    • This strength surprised me entirely. I did not expect to be found empathetic, yet I most likely connected to this strength by being able to know if a person is upset and needs time to themselves.
  • Achiever
    • I connected with Achiever through my strong work ethic and determination to complete assignments. I refuse to skip an assignment because it feels wrong to me, and I also love the stress of working on hard homework because of the relief of finishing it.
  • Responsibility
    • The strength of Responsibility resonates with me because of my strong values of honesty and loyalty. In addition, if I am put in charge of something I am committed to making sure it all works out well.
