As a recent high school graduate, I wasn’t one that was extremely excited to go to football games. I didn’t understand the hype that my dad, an OSU alumni, emphasized with Ohio State football. I just didn’t understand why people loved it so much, but as I entered the Horseshoe Stadium on November 7th, 2015, I began to understand why the passion for football existed. The audience roared as the Buckeyes prepared to take on the Minnesota Gophers. There is nothing like the moment when the team you are rooting for scores a touchdown. Everyone around you turns to give their neighbors high fives. The reason that football is so popular on campus is because it creates a sense of community and forges memories for every person in attendance. People support the team because of this lasting sense of community that still lingers with them. My dad remembers the days that he spent surrounded by his friends and fellow students on game days just as I will remember the night I spent at the “Shoe” when I have kids of my own. This moment was the first time I truly felt like I belonged at Ohio State. In that moment, when one hundred thousand people were cheering, chanting, and clapping, I knew that I was where I was supposed to be; The Ohio State University.
