Ribosomal large subunit (23S) rRNA gene

The first sequence of the 23S rRNA gene of O. tsutsugamushi was determined in 1994 for the Gilliam isolate (Fuerst and Stothard, 1994; Stothard Ph.D. thesis 1995).   The gene was found to show ~ 12.5% sequence divergence from the homologous gene in 12 species of Rickettsia.

As of Autumn 2017, the sequences of the 23S rRNA gene can be extracted from genome sequences that have been deposited in the international DNA databases for 39 isolates (including the genome sequence of the Gilliam isolate).  We expect to include details on the genes from the genome sequences when we, or others, extract them from the genome information.
