The University Honors & Scholars Center at The Ohio State University serves high-ability, motivated undergraduate students. G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness

    In my time at OSU, I plan to get involved in cultural centered organizations, as well as take advantage of Study Abroad opportunities. I am excited to get involved with Cercle Français, the French club here at OSU, to connect with other francophiles and learn more about French culture, as well as supplement my major in French. As far as an interdisciplinary education abroad, I am interested in both the Political Science Canadian Parliament Internship, as well as applying for the Borel scholarship to travel and study for a year. Both of the programs are very unique and enriching opportunities which will allow me to immerse myself in other languages and cultures, and gain global awareness in both of my subjects of study (French and political science) which will prepare me further for a career in these fields.

Original Inquiry

    As far as original inquiry goes, I hope to pursue this goal by undertaking some field research under one of my professors in the field of political science. One particular project I have my eyes on at the moment, is some continued work my Comp. Policy Professor is doing, with analysis of French income data. Getting involved with research like this or something similar, will help me build strong relationships with faculty as well as gain lots of valuable field experience for future jobs or graduate programs.

Academic Enrichment

    Academic Enrichment is inherently a part of the Honors Program. I have already begun working on this goal by taking on a rigorous course load excluding multiple honors classes and those taught at 3000 level or above in order to push myself as much as I can. The majors I have chosen, Political Science and French, not only pair well together (along with a minor in a second language I plan on adding), but set me up perfectly for a career in the United States government, or doing some sort of international or diplomacy work.

Leadership Development

    There are a couple ways I plan on developing my leadership skills during my time as a student. Firstly, is though my time on the Women’s Rowing team which I joined this year. Here I am/will be able to hone my ability to lead as well as collaborate with my teammates. Secondly, is through my position on General Body for Buckeyethon. This position which I applied for, is not only super fun and for a great cause, but allows me to have a deeper involvement in the organization, with participating in the organization’s fundraising and one of the committees, all of which will use various types of leadership skills. In the future, I would like to become an executive for one of the committees, allowing me more responsibilities and opportunities for growth.

Service Engagement

    Buckeyethon is the primary service/engagement I will be committing my time at OSU. From fundraising, volunteering, and organizing events, to the Dance Marathon itself, it’s a big time commitment but something I’m so grateful to be a part of. I also plan on volunteering for several stand alone events/service projects. For example, I will be participating in this years “Feed the Funnel” next Thursday, helping pack meals for those who need it in Columbus.
