Quarter-Scale Tractor Design Team

I am interested in getting involved with the Quarter-Scale Tractor Design Team because I want to develop my engineering and critical skills thinking with the real world. With this club, students design and build a small tractor for practical uses and competitions, and I can learn a lot about engines and vehicle design. Additionally, I am interested in Biological Engineering because I can learn about tractor uses in the real world to develop my knowledge in that area. With the experience I plan to get from this club, I will have a better overall understanding of engineering projects in the real world and contributing my knowledge and skills to a project.

Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. Global Awareness:

While I am at Ohio State I plan to complete a study abroad experience. My decision to study abroad comes from my interest in learning about other people, other cultures, and other countries. Europe is my number one choice for studying abroad, and I think I would enjoy the Netherlands or England the most. By studying abroad, I will be able to fulfill some of my interests and experience things I would never otherwise get to experience.

Original Inquiry:

I plan to get involved with research at Ohio State through my intended major, Biological Engineering. Ideally, I would like to work with botany and the environment, but I am open to anything in which I will be contributing to making a difference. Additionally, I could become involved in research experiences through an internship in which I would learn about a specific subject and how it contributes to society.

Academic Enrichment:

Biological Engineering is my intended major because I have always had an interest in making and contributing to the things that people use daily. With Biological Engineering, I can help with plants and how people source food and help the environment, and to me, this seems like an important major to pursue. With this major, I plan to work with plant growers and other companies to help with sustainability and reduced waste.

Leadership Development:

As an Eagle Scout, I have had countless experiences of leading and experiencing leadership. Through these experiences, I have learned how to lead efficiently and in a way that produces the best result. Knowing and displaying traits of good leadership, including delegation and respect, have led me to understand there are times to lead and times to be led. Whatever career I end up going into, I will always need to have strong leadership qualities. As an Eagle Scout, and with my future leadership experiences, I will be better prepared for my professional career.

Service Engagement:

I plan to volunteer throughout my college career at Ohio State. I know how much volunteering can impact people, and by contributing my time to others, I can make someone’s day. With a club or organization, I want to volunteer consistently. I believe I will have the greatest impact by staying with one or two organizations, but I will experience a variety of volunteering to widen my perspective and how I can help in the world.

Career

[“Career” is where you can collect information about your experiences and skills that will apply to your future career.  Like your resume, this is information that will evolve over time and should be continually updated.  For more guidance on using your ePortfolio, including questions and prompts that will help you get started, please visit the Honors & Scholars ePortfolio course in Carmen. Eagle Scout Project

As an Eagle Scout, my Eagle Scout project was a 96 square foot butterfly garden, which was designed and constructed for my elementary school in the spring of 2019. Elementary school students can admire the plants and animals as they walk to their classes, kindergarten uses it for their curriculum about butterflies, and other grades use it for a range of activities. My Eagle project is significant to me because it represents my Eagle Scout rank and what I had to accomplish to achieve it. Through my Eagle Project, I learned leadership, communication, and perseverance, among many other life skills, and I am taking what I have experienced with my Eagle Project and as an Eagle Scout to make an impact with everything I do.

About Me

Hi, my name is Sammy Schwartz, I am from Cincinnati, Ohio, and my intended major is Biological Engineering. While in college, I hope to achieve my goals of doing well with rewarding activities and classes as well as continue to grow my independence. I am in college for the experience of learning, meeting new people, trying new things, and being successful in getting a stable and fulfilling job. High school developed my academic interests in math, engineering, and business, and I intend to pursue these subjects in college through my courses and extracurricular activities. Currently, my passions and interests do not extend to a particular field of research or academic area within FABE (Food, Agricultural, and Biological Engineering), however, I have an open mind and am willing to try and learn about anything within and outside of my intended major. As an Eagle Scout, community service and leadership opportunities are important to me. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy cooking and playing and watching sports including baseball, football, and tennis.
