About Me

Tara Schrader

Hello,

My name is Tara Schrader and I am a first year who is majoring in Health Information Management and Systems and planning to minor in Health, Environment, Risk, and Science Communication at The Ohio State University. I am part of the Humanitarian Engineering Scholars and work as a Student Lead at Traditions at Scott. In addition I am a trainer for the incoming employees. I went to Olentangy Liberty High School and was a member of their Marching Band. I played the flute and was a section leader for both my junior and senior years. In my free time I enjoy reading books and running out in the sun.  Looking into the future I hope to find myself working in a hospital in the HIM department as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA). I am a very optimistic person and enjoying spending time with my friends. One quote I live by is “Whenever you meet someone, make them happier than when you first saw them”

Artifacts

fullsizerender2Flute- My flute is one of many objects that have helped me to develop into the person I am today. I got my flute in the fifth grade as I was becoming part of the elementary school band. My skills as a musician I’d say were average if not perhaps good for my age.It wasn’t until high school that I really saw the magic of my instrument. I got involved in the marching band and my world flipped on its head. The band had tripled in size and I was a small freshmen in the midst of it all. But as time passed I fully integrated myself as part of the band. I adapted to the practice regiment and began to find the joy in practicing. Marching band was a force of change. It took me from a reluctant player to one with confidence and motivation. The confidence I gained didn’t just end with playing, it extended even further to my personality. So much so that I tried out for a leadership position. fullsizerenderI became the flute section leader for both my junior and senior year. Being able to lead the underclassmen to success was a journey like no other. Watching them grow into band and finding their place in the family was a sight to see. But none of that would’ve been possible if I hadn’t picked up the flute. My flute and involvement in the marching band has changed me from the inside out and given me new perspectives on life. They gave me unforgettable experiences, everlasting friendships, precious memories, and most importantly the confidence to go for my dreams.

Cru Ohio State (Real Life)– During my first weeks of college I was searching for a Christian group to deepen my faith and stay connected with the church. Upon my search I stumbled upon the organization known as Real Life aka Cru at Ohio State. It is a nondenominational Christian Organization that holds meeting on Sunday nights at the Newport and has group bible studies that can be found in some of the dorms. This group welcomes all with open arms and invites them on a journey to know Christ. I was contacted quickly and had a small meeting with two older members. They walked me through their belief system which I found to be similar to my own back in Powell. I felt a sense of peace and in my head I thought “This is the one.” Very quickly I integrated myself into the organization and even joined a group bible study. These meetings have changed me in many ways and have given me some new perspectives on life. I’ve found more ways to connect with God and how to put him before all of my studies. Cru has also given me the chance to meet many new people and expand my web of connections. I even found a church to attend on my Sunday mornings.  This organization has helped me develop as a person both spiritually and mentally. As I spend my days here at OSU I hope that Cru will be able to reach more people and change their lives as it has done for me.
