Peer Leader Group Excersion

For this assignment, we were tasked to go an explore Columbus was peer group. My group choose to try the trendy smoothie shop, Trism. Walking into Trism, it was obvious that it was geared toward young adults because of its “artsy” decor. In looking at the menu, there were limited options, so I was a little apprehensive at first, considering I’m generally not a smoothie person. In the end I opted for the “Morning Glory”; which, was the most simple on the menu. Once I got my smoothie, however, I was pleasantly surprised – it was delicious. I would definitely return and would recommend it to friends, but I would be weary because the prices are high.

 

 

Columbus To Do #2

For my final two excursions to explore Columbus, I went to the zoo with Maci Baker and went to two concerts in Nationwide Arena.

I had been to the zoo many times growing up, but had not been back in ages. Being a huge animal lover, I was so excited to go rediscover my childhood favorite place. While much had changed since the last time I was there, I still had a feeling of nostalgia. Much had changed, like the new Africa exhibit, but overall it was just as amazing as before – if not better! My favorite animals were the red pandas and the baby polar bears. I have already planned my return to the Columbus Zoo for their famous Zoo Lights, and would recommend a trip to the zoo for anyone.

Next on my list, I went to the Ed Sheeran concert with Kaylee Elkins and the Tim McGraw and Faith Hill concert with Nora Yankovich. Both concerts were at Nationwide Arena; which, was just a quick, easy COTA bus ride away. For both concerts, I was seated close to the safe. Nationwide Arena was a super interesting venue and am looking forward to returning for a Blue Jackets hockey game or another concert.

Overall, I really enjoyed the Columbus to do experience. Often times, I overlook Columbus and think of it as just another Midwestern city; however, since being in college I have loved re-exploring my home city and coming to appreciate it’s diversity.

Columbus To-Do List #1

Since I am from Columbus, I’m wanting to do things I haven’t done before; therefore, for this semester, I am hopping around from list to list. I am looking forward to exploring local food and the different down town neighborhoods, along with visiting the zoo, since I have not been in a while. I hope to gain more knowledge and an appreciation for the city that I get to continue to call home for the next 4 years.

 

For my first stop, I checked out Eden Burger, a local vegan restaurant, with my fellow Humanitarian Engineer Scholar, Kaylee Elkins. We loved how close Eden Burger was to campus and I enjoyed going to a place I had never even heard of. While Eden Burger is known for their vegan burgers, I opted for an order of their “tenders and fries”. They were delicious and I would go back for seconds in a heart beat. The only thing that was a little confusing was trying to figure out what was in each of their “meat” options; however, the staff was well equipped with knowledge of the menu to help. Over,I loved the atmosphere of the little hole in the wall restaurant and would recommend it to all.

Artifacts

This photo was taken at a Young Life paint fight event. I became involved in Young Life my freshman year in high school and am continuing to do it today. Young Life is a christian organization geared toward building community in the high school. With Young Life, I grew in my faith and met some of my best friends (pictured). I also was able to take my love for service and use it through the organization by doing Work Crew. For Work Crew, I went to a summer camp for a month and washed dishes for the campers. I loved this experience because I was given the opportunity to give back to the organization that had given me so much.

 

 

Here is me and my pal Brutus at the woman’s volleyball game against TSUN. I joined Block O the first week of school as a general member and am now on the committee for Lacrosse. I now attend most athletic events and cheer for the bucks. Through Block O, I have been able to continue to pursue my love of sports even though I am not playing at the collegiate level. I  love the fact that Block O includes people of all ages; which, has allowed me to make many new friends. I am excited to continue in Block O over the next few years and see where it takes me!

About Me

Hello, my name is Avery Scholl. I come from Upper Arlington, Ohio and I am a first year student at The Ohio State University studying Biomedical Engineering as a Major and French as a minor. I was drawn to Biomedical Engineering because it takes the creativity and mechanics of engineering and applies it the biology of the human body. I fell in love with the French language over the course of my first class and fell deeper in love with the culture when I traveled abroad my Junior year. Because of my in-class and out-class experiences, my curiosity and knowledge about the world has grown – I look forward to continue this at Ohio State. In high school, I was heavily involved in community service. Whether it was volunteering at Riverside Methodist Hospital or helping the local Civic Association, I always enjoyed giving back to my community. Being a Humanitarian Engineering Scholar, I am excited to pair my passion for community service with my love for science.
