PubMed Commons

NCBI is in the pilot phase of a new PubMed service that allows researchers to post comments on individual PubMed abstracts. Called PubMed Commons, this service was developed  in response to  the scientific community that such a forum to become a part of PubMed. Many questions about the service

The goal of PubMed Commons is the leveraging of social networking to encourage constructive discussions of scientific issues that could enhance understanding and encourage collaboration. Researchers can comment on any publication indexed by PubMed and read the comments of others. The answers to many commons questions can be found in the PubMed Commons FAQ.

To access PubMed Commons,users must first log into MyNCBI. After performing a PubMed search, the PubMed Commons feature appears automatically at the bottom of every article record. A comment can include links to other materials or other documents within PubMed. Clicking on the PubMed Commons link take one to a page containing all comments that have been recently posted.

As of this writing, PubMed Commons is in a closed pilot testing phase, which means that only invited participants can add and view comments in PubMed.
