About Me

Why hello there! Nice to make your acquaintance! I am Ben Schneider, a third year Chemical Engineering Major and International Affairs Scholars member. It seems my dashing looks or some kind of universal requirement has brought you to my site. Clearly you are interested in me, so…. I’ll take this time to tell you a little bit more about myself.

I grew up in the semi small town of Bellbrook, Ohio. Since I was a wee lad, I’ve always had a passion for problem solving. Whether it be quick, tactical decisions in games like Call of Duty, or analyzing what the best mode of attack in Super Smash Bros Melee, little Ben loved puzzles. As I have grown and matured throughout the years, I have learned to apply this in various points of my life. Currently, most of my analytical abilities are being tested and reflected throughout my major courses, using a muscle that I am continuously improving.

Also growing up, I had fond memories of the outdoors. My experiences ranged from camping with Boy Scouts, to working on my grandfather’s garden, and digging up “fossils” in my backyard. Throughout these experiences I have learned to incorporate an appreciation of nature that has stuck with me through the years. As college shackles my inductive call to experience nature, I still manage to find time to pay my respects. As of yesterday, a new plant was born named Po. Yet to sprout, I hope this bamboo plant will find its ways to the skies.

Given two major traits that have shaped and development me throughout childhood, I’d like to talk about where I am right now. Currently, I am an undergraduate teaching assistant for the MATLab course 1221. Being an undergraduate teaching assistant experience has allowed me to meet lots of new people, and expand my comfort zone in the classroom. I have gone from the learner to the teacher, grader, and mentor. It is a job I am continuously getting used to, but find myself enjoying more and more. This will be my third class I have TA’ed at OSU, the other two were ENGR 1181 and it’s follow up ENGR 1182. Also, in my quest to further involve myself in on-campus activities, I had joined bread club. We meet on Wednesdays and it serves as a good break from the day-to-day life of an engineering student. When numbers are all one looks at, sometimes meetings new people and eating food is just refreshing. Not to mention they have killer t-shirts.

For the future, I plan to finish my degree in chemical engineering, and secure a job in the research and development field of energy. With little actual industrial experience, I also hope to acquire an internship over the summer to explore what other areas chemical engineering has to offer, while applying key skills and knowledge learned in class to an industrial setting. Otherwise, my goals are still very short cited: get A’s, find me time, join a club or two, and meet new people.

Thanks for taking the time to learn about me! If you still have any questions that you are absolutely itching to ask, don’t be afraid to email!
