In my senior year of high school I had the opportunity to individually research a topic that related to the field of psychology. I chose to research Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. I had to use peer-reviewed research from researchers in the field of psychology or neurology. I then had to put all of the research together and formulate my own research paper. Through this experience I learned how to find and understand peer reviewed sources in medical journals. I also learned how to write a research paper with properly cited, annotated sources. I also now understand ADHD and other mental illnesses much better. In the future I plan to use these skills to help me write better research papers in the future. Additionally I believe that this will help me understand the relations between biology, chemistry, the environment and psychology. This allows me to be able to fully grasp the holistic nature of modern medicine and it could help me one day be a better doctor.
