Journal 5

Right now I am involved in Scholars and Servitecture and I plan to stay in both while adding more involvement to that. I am really looking forward to my Architecture major classes as well as my Landscape Architecture minor classes. I am considering looking for an internship this summer, however I am not sure they will be looking for freshman, so I am trying to keep my options open. I think it would be really interesting to shadow a professional, and I am planning to look into that more. Also, I am still really interested in studying abroad and I plan to use the STEP money next year to help cover the costs of travel. The Global Awareness in GOALS is fulfilled by studying abroad, the Leadership Development will be fulfilled by getting internships and joining clubs, and the Service Engagement is fulfilled by Servitecture and other service activities. Next year, I plan on continuing in Architecture, Scholars, and Servitecture and I plan on participating in STEP to balance the cost of studying abroad.

Columbus To Do List: Part 2

img_6566The next coffee and tea place that I went to was the ZenCha Tea Salon. The salon was really calm and relaxing and had interesting decorations. They had a huge tea menu and a decently large food menu too. It was hard to narrow down the list, but I ended up getting a rose tea latte. It was good, however, the rose flavor was really subtle so it mostly just tasted like milk and sugar. I went to the salon with Rylee and Amanda and they got a green tea summer blend and an earl grey latte. The summer blend was really good and flavorful but the earl grey latte was too strong and unpleasant. We also got an assortment of tea cookies that were very unique and fun to try. The location was in the short north and was therefore pretty convenient. I would definitely go back to the salon and I would recommend it to people who love tea!

I went to Cuimg_6626p O Joe with my sister and absolutely loved it! I would definitely go back and would highly recommend it. We rode the bus to the one in Clintonville and it was not too far. The environment was very welcoming and relaxed. The menu had many options, but ultimately, my sister got an almond joy latte and I got a pumpkin chai latte and a cookie. Everything was really delicious and was exactly what we were looking for! I think there is a different Cup O Joe coffee shop in the Lennox Town Center and I think this location would be more convenient because I shop at that target a lot!

The next shop we went toimg_6639 was Stauf’s Coffee. I went with my sister and her friend, Rylee, and Amanda. My sister drove all of us here which made the coffee shop seem close, however, I think it would not be convenient if we were riding the bus. The café was very busy and it was hard to find a place to sit, but the staff was friendly and welcoming. The menu was very large and they do serve food, but we only got drinks. I got an almond joy latte but I did not like it because it did not have a good flavor. I would not recommend this coffee shop because it was not convenient, very busy, and the coffee was not good.

img_6634The final coffee shop we went to was Kafe Kerouac and I went with Amanda and Rylee. The location was really convenient and we were able to walk there. The staff was really friendly and they had a unique menu where each specialty drink was named after an author or related to literature. I got the Dr. Seuss latte and it was good, but it just tasted like a regular latte without flavoring. The shop also had many old books and board games that were available for purchase and that added an interesting element to the café. We had a unique experience here because while we were here, the campus attack was happening. The staff was very kind and made us feel secure and they seemed to genuinely care for our safety which was comforting. I liked the coffee shop and I will most likely return and recommend it to friends.

Columbus To Do List: Part 1

I chose the cofffox-in-the-snow-cafeee and tea list theme and I am really excited to experience the different cafes. I really enjoy drinking coffee and tea and I think this is a great opportunity to experience some unique coffee shops that are special to Columbus. I am really looking forward to trying the delicious one-of-a-kind drinks that these shops are known for! The first place I went to was the Fox in the Snow Café and I went with Maddy, Rylee, and Amanda. The shop had a very relaxed and hipster feel to it and the staff was extremely friendly. I got a regular latte and a sticky bun and we ate these at a little table in the shop’s outdoor area. I thought that both the latte and the bun were delicious and they even put a design on top of the latte! The menu here was slightly different than what I am used to because they did not have flavorings for the coffee. The plain latte was good but it took me a minute to appreciate the stronger coffee flavor. We chose this location because some of our friends had been there before and recommended it to us. I think I would go back to this café, however, it is located in Italian Village and is not in the most convenient location. We took the number two bus until the fourth street stop and then walked the rest of the way to the café. It was not a bad walk in the fall, but in the winter I am not sure it would be worth the cold!

Journal 1

I really enjoyed welcome week and I am excited for the Kesha concert! I thought the activities were very fun and they helped me to get involved with OSU and the campus. So far, I am thoroughly interested in my classes and they are similar to what I expected, however, I did not anticipate such a variety in size. Some of my lectures have hundreds of students in them, while other classes have around twenty. Overall, I feel that I am adjusting well to my new life. I have not yet been extremely homesick and my roommates help to make our dorm feel like home. Also, I did not think that we would get along as well as we do and I thought it would take me longer to navigate around campus. I cannot wait for the next four years and all of the adventures to come!
