My name is Amber Schmitz and I will be a freshman at Ohio State the fall of 2018. I plan to major in health sciences with a minor in Spanish. I hope to use my degree to attend medical school in the future. I look forward to discovering the different fields of medicine, but I am currently interested in specializing in pediatrics or OB/GYN. I also hope that my minor in Spanish will give the opportunity to travel abroad and explore other cultures.

I am so excited to be in the Dunn Sports and Wellness Scholars program, not only for my love of sports, but also for my love of meeting new people. I have always been extremely competitive (you have to be with two older brothers) so athletics have always been my go to. I’ve played numerous sports throughout my years of school including softball, basketball, volleyball and cross country. Unfortunately, due to a few injuries, I was only able to play one, softball, throughout my entire high school career.

Besides sports, other hobbies I have are biking and hiking. I love traveling and hope use the many opportunities Ohio State gives to study abroad and be a part of some mission trips. I love road trips, skydiving, concerts, roller coasters and any other type of adventure. I love my family and friends so muchand have a very strong faith, so I’m also a Jesus lover.

I grew up in a very small farming community called Maria Stein, Ohio, which is about two hours from Columbus. My family includes my mom, a teacher, my dad, a machinist, and two older brothers. Nick, 23, is graduated and employed as a full time firefighter. Aaron, 21, currently attends University of Toledo for engineering. My family also wouldn’t be complete without my dogs Bailey and Maya.

I can’t wait to see what Ohio State has in store for me as I prepare for my future!
