G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness

I am attempting a double major with Astronomy and German. Germany is really important to me and my family so I connect to it through learning the language and culture. I hope in college to do a study abroad to Germany, specifically I am looking at DAAD’s RISE program where I can combine my majors by doing astronomy research in Germany.

Original Inquiry

As an astronomy major, I will do research throughout my undergraduate career to prepare for graduate school. I am excited to get to work with faculty members in doing research.

Academic Enrichment

Because both of my majors offer very few honors sections of classes because they are smaller, I plan on taking many high level courses to compensate for the lack of honors classes. This is important to me, because what is the point of getting an easy education. You will not learn anything, so by challenging myself I hope to learn more and learn it better.

Leadership Development

I participated in the R-LEAD program this summer and next summer I am hoping to do it again as a mentor. The program really helped me settle in to my new environment before everyone is on campus, so I am hoping to help next year’s freshmen become comfortable with campus. I am also looking into planetarium training next year. Right now I do not know enough actual astronomy to do it yet, but I am hoping next year I can work on that so I can present planetarium shows.

Service Engagement

I am not currently involved in any service groups, however I am looking at the QSQ mentor program, which is a program where first year LGBTQ+ students are paired with older LGBTQ+ students and they work together to help the freshmen get involved in the community or help with getting access to resources, or just someone to talk to if they don’t have anyone else they can talk to about being LGBTQ+. I think that the program is really great and I would love to help incoming freshmen navigate the LGBTQ+ opportunities on campus and in Columbus.
