What’s Changed Since College Started?

One aspect of my life that has changed drastically over the past few months has been my financial situation. This is because I decided not to get a job first semester, and the sudden stop of income really has really been something that I’ve struggled with. I got my first job as soon as I started to drive which was around the same time that my parents stopped paying for everything. This was about two and a half years ago, so by the time that college came around I had created a very good spending to income ratio. However, with this I never realized how much I spent, especially since I had always thought of myself as a saver. The first couple weeks gave me a huge shock when it came time to paying my bill. I had not realized how careless I was being with my money, and had not prepared myself for the amount of times that I would be eating out. It took me about a month and a half to really figure out how I was to be spending my money.

I realized that if I were to pay with things with cash, I was much more likely to spend less. I think this is because it is a more visual representation of my money leaving it’s not just a card I can swipe anytime. I also will start looking for a job for next semester because if I can get a little bit of money flowing in, I would love that.

Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness:

I am a traveler by heart so in order to expand my global awareness I would love to study abroad for a couple weeks in May or in the summer one year. I am currently enrolled in Italian 1, and took Spanish all throughout my high school years so if I were to go to a place where I could utilize those langues I would love that.  I also would be interested in joining more culturally diverse groups because I enjoy learning more about other cultures and lifestyles different than my own ways.

Original Inquiry:

My junior year is when I should get more into the research aspect of data analytics, especially with a specialization in biomedical informatics. I also will pursue internships throughout the summer in order to gain valuable experience.

Academic Enrichment:

I expect to hold myself to a certain standard in order to perform my best while I am still studying at The Ohio State University. I will continue to take honors classes, and challenge myself with harder level classes.

Leadership Development:

I hope to hold a leadership roll in a club or perhaps if I get a job on campus through my job, gain more leadership experience. There are many options that I have yet to explore to get involved on campus which excites me to get to do this.

Service Engagement:

I am currently looking in to join one of the many service clubs on campus. I go on an annual missions trip in my hometown every summer so it is very important to me to help others.

Career

[“Career” is where you can collect information about your experiences and skills that will apply to your future career.  Like your resume, this is information that will evolve over time and should be continually updated.   For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio.
