Year in Review

Vision Statement – I am going to complete my undergraduate degree in three years and work for a year as a research assistant before graduate school. In my three years, I will achieve multiple research publications and presentations.

Statement of Action – I am going to do my best to support my peers while still working my way to my goals, most likely through my role as a Buckeye Peer Access Line Student Manager.

Year End Reflection – This screen grab is a still from one of my favorite shows, Parks and Recreation. I think it rings true for almost all college students this year. Online schooling has presented many challenges, but forced me to work on my time management skills and learn how to separate work time from down time when they occur in the same setting. I learned how to enjoy my own company more, and work actively to maintain my physical and mental health by making a point to spend a certain amount of time each day out of my dorm room.

Course Review – English 2266, Introduction to Poetry Writing, was a really amazing class for me. As someone who primarily takes a heavy STEM course load, the break in my schedule that poetry provided was helpful for my mental health. Poetry has also been an emotional outlet for me to deal with certain things going on in my life, and this course helped me grow as a writer. We read many different modern, and some slightly older, poets, and discuss several poetic devices to be adapted into our own writing. We submitted four poems for workshopping by our peers, and a fifth in our final portfolio. I learned that I am able to incorporate science into my art, and some creativity into my science, and this will strengthen my professional writing in the future. This course inspired me to potentially pick up a Creative Writing minor, and I am taking the followup course in autumn semester.
