Dr. Sarah Peters, M.S., PhD

Principle Investigator | peters.1026@osu.edu

Dr. Peters is an assistant professor in the Division of Biosciences at The Ohio State University College of Dentistry. She received her Bachelor of Science at the Florida Institute of Technology and accomplished her doctoral training at the State University of Albany. Her post doctoral studies were completed at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She enjoys yoga and helps run a practice space near her office. Dr. Peters also rides in the Pelotonia to help raise funds for cancer research in honor of my sister, Debra Peters, who cancer took from us in July 2021.

 

 

 


Dane Kanniard, B.A.

Dane is a forward-thinking individual, who prides himself on his ability to adapt to multiple situations that arise within the lab environment. He helps with administrative tasks and performs lab procedures like genotyping and dissections. He graduated from The Ohio State University in 2022 with a B.A. in Anthropology, Columbus State Community College in 2019 with a A.S in Science, and received a degree from Delaware Area Career Center in Bioscience. In his free time, he enjoys running, playing video games, and reading fiction literature.

 

 

 


Fatma Fenesha

Fatma is a PhD student at The Ohio State University College of Dentistry. Fatma completed her dental school at Benghazi University in Libya and then earned her Doctor degree of Clinical Dentistry in Orthodontics from The University of Sheffield in England and she is also a member of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh. Fatma will be looking at teeth aging and investigating the mineralization and innervation of teeth as they age. In her free time, Fatma enjoys cooking, yoga, photography and exploring new places to eat.

 

 

 

 


Gabriela Wandling, B.A.

Gabi is a 2nd year student in the OSU Neuroscience Graduate Program. Gabi completed her B.A. in Economics at the University of Illinois-Chicago. After graduating, she decided to change directions towards a career in biomedical sciences. Before coming to OSU, Gabi spent several years working in a lab at UIC that studies the epigenetic mechanisms of alcohol use disorder. Gabi will be investigating the role of neurotrophins and axon guidance molecules in tooth development and healing after dental injury. She is also interested in the role of periodontitis in neuroinflammation and aging in the central nervous system. In her free time, Gabi enjoys hanging out with her cat and two dogs, reading novels, crafting, and exploring the Columbus metro parks.

 

 

 


Monica Stanwick, B.S., M.A.T.

Graduate Researcher | stanwick.10@osu.edu

Monica works on administrative tasks and experiments like immunofluorescence, in situ hybridization, and survival surgeries. She graduated from Marshall University in 2018 with a B.S. in Biology, earned a Master of Arts in Teaching from Mercer University in 2019, and taught high school biology for a year before changing directions to research. Monica is also currently pursuing a Master of Public Health degree, and she does public health research in the PS LGBTQ+ Health Equity Lab, which focuses on disparate tobacco use among the LGBTQ+ community. Outside of lab (and school), Monica likes to read (current favorites: Circe, Babel, and Ender’s Game), cook, work out (come ride in Pelotonia!!), sing, travel, and play with her cat, Peach.

 

 

 

 


Rami Alsabbagh

Periodontics Resident | alsabbagh.3@osu.edu

Rami is a Periodontology resident in the Class of 2025, having completed dental school at the University of Toronto in Canada. He will be working on a project investigating the relationship between periodontal disease and Alzheimer’s disease using MicroCT imaging. Outside of lab and residency, Rami enjoys spending time with his wife, Afnan, and newborn twin daughters, Rateel and Talia.

 

 

 


Audrey Koster, B.S.

Audrey is a second-year dental student who graduated from Purdue University in 2022 with a B.S. in biomedical health sciences. She studies the effects of ovariectomy on the dentin densities of rats, which frequently involves MicroCT imaging, tooth extraction, and protein isolation. Outside of lab and Ohio State’s rigorous dental curriculum, Audrey enjoys running, working out, skiing, cooking, and playing volleyball.

 

 

 


 

Irene Kim

Irene is currently gaining experience on laboratory techniques such as Micro-CT and genotyping. In her free time, she plays the piano and violin; Irene loves music in general. She also likes to play with her toy poodle, Isy.

 

 

 

 


Leah LaVerde

Leah is a third year undergraduate Neuroscience student planning to attend medical school. In lab, she has worked on micro-CT imaging, staining, cryosectioning, and genotyping. Outside of lab, she is very involved in her sorority and the neuroscience program’s leadership, Make-A-Wish, and volunteering with Ronald McDonald House.

 

 

 

 


Ahmed Hamid

ASPIRE Senior Student | hamid.55@osu.edu

Ahmed is a 3rd year studying environmental public health. His skills include microscopy, dissection, and genotyping. Ahmed is the secretary for NSSA at OSU (North and South Sudanese Association), and he is on the Public Health Student Leadership council at OSU. He also is a server at a retirement home. In Ahmed’s free time he enjoy reading and spending time with his cat, Moon and hanging out with friends.

 

 

 

 


Siya Chhibber

Siya is a senior at Dublin Jerome High School taking dual-enrollment OSU classes. She is currently working on histology including sectioning, staining, and imaging. At her school, she is president of STEM Friends Club which teaches STEM topics to middle schoolers through science experiments. In her free time, she enjoys playing pickleball with her friends and binge-watching TV shows.

Aashi Sharma

Aashi is a 3rd year studying neuroscience and global public health. Her skills include staining and sectioning. Outside of the lab, she volunteers at the Franklin Park Conservatory and is very involved in College Mentors for Kids. In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with friends, going on walks, and crocheting.
