Fitting in to Move Forward: Understanding Gender Disparities in the Physical Sciences, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (pSTEM)

Despite increased efforts to increase the interest of girls and women in the Physical Sciences, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (pSTEM), women still constitute a small minority in many math and science fields. This gender imbalance in representation is also often accompanied by poorer performance among women in these domains. This talk will present recent studies examining causes and consequences of women’s relatively lower sense of belonging in pSTEM. Studies will also be discussed developing and testing theory-based intervention to increase women’s interest and persistence in pSTEM.

The colloquium will be held in Psychology Building 035.
