Question of the Month/ Federalist Papers

Is there a way to change Congressional apportionment in the House to make it “fair”? If yes, how? If no, why not?

When it comes to redistricting there are some steps that we can take to make the system fairer but overall you’ll never be able to make it completely equal. Many reasons why redistricting is a problem, is because people get bribed to rearrange the map to keep politicians in power or, the other way, to kick a politician out. This is called gerrymandering and it is a serious problem. One step that we can take to make a set map based on the population. If this map is set then people can’t change it in their own favor or the favor of their party’s favor. Other than that there is really no other way to make it fully fair because it will always favor one party in some way.

Artifacts

My mentor’s name is Kyle Madura. Kyle is from a suburb outside of Chicago. He has ttwo siblings. He is double majoring in finance and political science, with a minor in economics. He picked The Ohio State University because he wanted to be close to a state capital, it was cheap, and he liked the Columbus area (especially the short north).  He decided to do PSL because he wanted to be in a Political Science focused group.  His favorite part of PSL is meeting his best friends and having the tight knit community on floor 3.  He wanted to become a mentor because he had a good experience with his mentor and he wanted to be more involved in PSL. His favorite class here, was also his hardest: Politics of the Middle East. Kyle is involved in PSL, Buckeye Capital Investors, and he works downtown for a state representative. His hobbies also involve running, working out, and swimming.

About Me

Hi, my name is Katherine Saxer. I grew up in Hudson, Ohio. Currently, I am in the exploration program at The Ohio State University but, I plan on applying to Fisher College of Business at the end of my first year. I love to listen to music, play soccer, hang with my friends and eat Mexican food.  I also love to travel. In the past two years, I’ve had the opportunity to travel to Yellowstone National Park, Glacier National Park, and drive down the Pacific Coast Highway.
