GOALS for Vrinda Sawhney

 

What have you done so far to develop your Global Awareness? How do you plan to continue to work toward this goal? (For example, consider course work, study abroad, involvement in cultural organizations or activities, etc.)

I am an international student from India. Being brought up in a different country gives me an advantage of having a different perspective than domestic students around me. I have been able to assimilate my knowledge of my own culture with this new culture I have been introduced in and have been able to find a way to thrive in my surroundings. I plan to pursue an internship back in India in Summer 2018, which I believe will allow me to apply my knowledge gained here to a different country.

 

What experiences have you had so far that have helped you to understand the research or creative process? How do you plan to continue to work toward this goal? (For example, consider research, creative productions or performances, advanced course work, etc.)

              I have been involved with a social psychology lab since the second semester of my freshman year. My experience as a research assistant has allowed me to understand how to study humans in an ethical manner. I plan to continue as a research assistant and learn more on ethics of research.

 

How does your Honors Contract demonstrate a commitment to the goal of Academic Enrichment? How does your planned curriculum relate to your future aspirations? (Consider, for example, the following questions: Why did you choose the major(s) (and minor(s), if any) you chose? Why did you select the GE courses you have chosen? How do your selections demonstrate a commitment to excellence?)

              My curiosity to understand human behavior is being fulfilled with the challenging courses that I’ve taken so far. My major and especially honors class push me to think beyond my ability and encourage me to go an extra mile. I’ve carefully chosen my general education classes as I want to gather knowledge about as many more areas of study I can other than psychology and sociology.

 

With which activities are you involved? How does your involvement contribute to your development as a leader? How does your involvement relate to your personal and/or career goals?

              I am actively involved in a student organization called India Students Association. In this organization, I get an opportunity to lead international students from India and help them adjust in new surroundings.

 

List the service-oriented activities with which you have been involved (both ongoing and short-term commitments). How do you plan to continue to engage with the community?

              I participated in Semester of Service in Spring 2018. I actively engaged in discussions and talked about our current sexual assault awareness and prevention techniques in OSU. I plan to find more opportunities to spread awareness about sexual assault.
