Year in Review
Freshman year has been an amazing experience and by far the hardest and best year of my life so far. In the beginning, I was a hard working student but I would always procrastinate and do the minimal work possible to get a good grade. This year the classes I was taking were generally more interesting to me because of the relevance to my major. This motivated me along with the difficulty of the classes to work harder and develop more successful and effective study methods. Besides academics, I have also grown in term of finding my own morals and different aspects of life that I think I didn’t realize were so important in high school. I have a new outlook on how I live my life, which is amazing and refreshing. Overall, I am having so much fun at college and learning a great deal. I cant wait to see what the next few years hold for me.
G.O.A.L.S.
[ “G.O.A.L.S.” is a place where students write about how their planned, current, and future activities may fit into the Honors & Scholars G.O.A.L.S.: Global Awareness, Original Inquiry, Academic Enrichment, Leadership Development, and Service Engagement. Global Awareness: I personally experienced global awareness in my history of music culture class. There I was exposed to so much new information about different cultures that I did not even know existed. This not only expanded my knowledge, but encouraged my awareness to be more conscious of new cultures everywhere I go, especially on campus. I also experienced some global awareness in my clinical experience in athletic training when working with athletes and co-workers with different backgrounds. I specifically learned how to work well and engage with these different backgrounds, while becoming more aware in a polite way. I also was able to engage with study abroad athletic training students from Spain, which was exciting to learn how my major is different in various cultures as well.
Original Inquiry: Honors & Scholars students understand the research process by engaging in experiences ranging from in-class scholarly endeavors to creative inquiry projects to independent experiences with top researchers across campus and in the global community. For example, consider research, creative productions or performances, advanced course work, etc.
Academic Enrichment: I emailed Sara Kusner who is in the athletic training program. She was very helpful in answering questions about the program. For example, she gave me advice on balancing the clinical hours and school work. She also provided me general advice on how to be successful in the athletic training program. Overall, through talking to her I feel more prepared to continue my academics in the athletic training program compared to my freshman year.
Leadership Development: My leadership was developed in so many different aspects of college. The biggest influence were my clinical hours which physically pushed my limits and encouraging the leadership in all tasks of the day. For example, I was given task of creating and running all rehab for an athletes injury for a week or performing evaluations to determine the diagnosis of the athletes injury. The more responsibility you take on the more leadership that will naturally develop along with it. I also gained my leadership through the responsibilities one gains when they attend college. The new environment forces you to be more independent and as a result make more decisions on your own, which in result improves your leadership.
Service Engagement: I performed service at The Garden of Hope. There I was given the amazing opportunity to help this specific community to help with their daily tasks of gardening. There I did activities like picking up the dead plants and clearing the fields by removing the plastic linings and any leftover plants and trash from the last batch of vegetables. Other tasks involved carrying fences and disposing of the unwanted plants. This volunteering was extremely rewarding since it was directly helping a specific community. I also helped a college counselor with simple tasks like organizing, and filing paperwork. I also assisted in replying to emails and keeping track of different college application related information.

About Me
My name is Julienne Sauer. I am from San Ramon, California and was the first of my family to be born in the United States. I just started my first year at The Ohio State University majoring in Athletic Training. I am hoping I will minor in German. After I get my masters degree in Athletic Training, my dream is to work for my favorite soccer team in Germany called Bayern Munich as their team Athletic Trainer. I love sports. I played water polo all through high school and swam since I was 8 years old. My favorite thing to do is watch soccer. Also, In high school I was President of Science Alliance a club that works on pairing high school mentors and 5th graders to create a scientific experiment and hopefully inspire children to purse science. I am hoping to continue my passions and explore for new ones here at OSU by joining the water polo club team, attend different sporting events, volunteering in the community, meet new people, and joining some clubs.
