My G.O.A.L.S.

My G.O.A.L.S.

Global Awareness: In order to increase my global awareness and develop a greater knowledge and appreciation for diversity in all forms, I plan on taking courses that will educate me about other parts of the world. I am considering pursuing a minor in German, which would involve a lot of coursework revolving around German culture, and perhaps participation in the Study Abroad program. In addition to increasing my global awareness via my coursework, I plan on getting involved in some of the various cultural organizations and activities offered at Ohio State.

Original Inquiry: In order to become familiar with the research process, gain experience, and hopefully make helpful contributions, I would like to take part in inquiry projects across campus. I hope to join and take part in a research lab relating to medicine.

Academic Enrichment: In order to receive an enriching education, I believe it is important to take a rigorous, yet balanced, course load that will challenge me and allow me to reach my greatest potential. My professional plan is to become a physician, which I believe my major in Biology will allow me to achieve. In addition to taking many science classes that are required for my major, I am also taking classes such as German and Psychology, purely due to my interest in the subjects. I think taking a variety of different classes in addition to those that pertain to my major is essential to achieving academic enrichment.

Leadership Development: Developing leadership skills is an important goal for me during my undergraduate years, as these skills will help me later on in life, including with my career. I plan on developing leadership through my extracurricular activities, specifically in clubs, organizations, and future research labs, where I will try to assume different responsibilities and positions.

Service Engagement: I believe that participation in service to the community is an important aspect of being a valuable and productive member of society. I would like to get involved and contribute to the community while also pursuing my interests and enriching my educational experiences by hopefully volunteering at the Wexner Medical Center, as well as participating in some of the organizations here at Ohio State such as MedLife, that help others receive the medical help and attention they need.

A Potential New Minor

After initially declaring a major in Biology, I was unsure if I wanted to add a minor as well. The areas of study I considered minoring in included psychology and neuroscience. I was certain that I wanted the minor to be in the scientific field. However, after progressing throughout the year, I have considered declaring a minor in German. This is the sixth year I have been learning German, and I am continuing to enjoy it thoroughly and see myself going further with it during my undergraduate years. I think it would be an interesting and beneficial minor to add, and it would give me an edge for future possible careers.
