Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. G.O.A.L.S.

I plan to pursue the first objective of the G.O.A.L.S., Global Awareness, in a couple different ways.  The main way I will do this is through first-hand experience of other cultures.  I would like to continue my hobby of traveling abroad and visit many various places.  I might even consider participating in a study abroad program while here at OSU.  Also, acquiring a minor in both French Studies and Russian will have a huge impact on my global awareness.  As a result of these factors, my global awareness will raise tremendously.

In order to achieve the second goal of the G.O.A.L.S., Original Inquiry, I will challenge myself in whatever ways possible.  One possible way this could be done is through participating in research.  This could include beginning my own research project and/or partaking in another research opportunity led by someone else.  In addition, I will attend research events, such as the Denman Undergraduate Research Forum.  Doing these will result in a high level of original inquiry.

The third objective of the G.O.A.L.S., Academic Enrichment, will be met in a number of ways.  For example, I plan to push myself by taking rigorous courses within my major.  This includes both honors and upper-level course work.  Additionally, I plan to broaden my studies further by earning two different minors.  Within both of these minors, I will also take honors and upper-level course work.  When pursuing these endeavors, I hope to do my best while maintaining a high level of performance.  If all of these criteria are met, then my goal of academic enrichment will also be met.

Leadership Development, the fourth goal of the G.O.A.L.S., has various methods in which it can be accomplished.  For instance, I am currently employed at a part-time job.  This job will help me develop many leadership skills.  In addition, I plan to be a part of an internship and/or research some time throughout my undergraduate career.  At some point throughout my undergrad, I will also join and take part in student organizations and/or community organizations.  Partaking in all of these shows initiative and thus promotes leadership development.

Last but not least, the final objective of the G.O.A.L.S., Service Engagement, will be met through participation in volunteer/service activities.  One example would be volunteer work at a medical facility, such as the Wexner Medical Center.  I could also join a service-oriented student organization, such as BuckeyeThon and/or Buck-I-SERV.  At some point while in my undergrad here at OSU, I would also like to travel abroad to partake in civic and service activities.  All in all, there are many different ways that I plan on fulfilling the goal of service engagement.
