Hi! My Name is Sammy Murray and I’m in my senior year as a Forestry, Fisheries and Wildlife major specializing in Wildlife Science. I have a deep appreciation for how plants and wildlife interact and benefit each other. The world of botany is very fascinating to me and although I don’t know a lot, I’m looking forward to learning more in this class. I’ve gotten the chance to take Woody Plants and work an internship at the Olentangy Wetlands, which helped expose me more to the wonders of plants. While learning about maple tree in Woody Plants, I realized that I love maples and find them to be beautiful. I’m hoping I can find more trees and plants to be beautiful while taking this class. The knowledge I’ll take from Ohio Plants will benefit me in my future career and my own personal interests!

Here is my coat of arms to get to know me a little better! First off, I drew a figure skate for my symbol. I have been skating since I was 3 years old, but my mom says I was born in skates haha. I started skating because my mom is a coach so I would go with her to the rink, and I ended up sticking with it. I love skating and It has played a big part in my life. Next for my motto, I put “don’t worry, be happy”. I think it is very important to not dwell on things and just focus on the good in your life. Don’t worry about the bad, just be happy about the good. For my hometown, I put Cincinnati, Ohio and drew a picture of a coney (because I LOVE Skyline Chili). I’m a proud Cincy girl and I love it back home. And finally for my major or field of interest, I put Wildlife Science or some form of restoration. I really love wildlife and would like to focus on that in the future, but I have recently realized I like to learn more about the things that function along with wildlife, such as the habitat and vegetation around them, and more. There is so much connected out in the world and I like focusing on the big picture, then breaking it down to the bits and pieces that make it all work together. While working at The Wetlands, I have found wetland restoration interesting and would like to look more into that for the future.
