Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. Robotics

I have been involved with robotics competitions since the 6th grade.  I’ve been dabbling with robotics on my own even longer.  Robotics is a creative endeavor, as close to art as it is to engineering.  Shown in the image is a work-in-progress photo of an automated lawnmower that my robotics team built over a summer.

Metalwork

Similar to robotics, working with metal is as much an art as it is engineering.  Oftentimes, it is more art than engineering.  Regardless, designing, forging, and welding are all creative pursuits with tangible results.  My high school had a metal shop and a couple of classes.  After taking those, I aided in the shop and was able to continue utilizing it for robotics and other projects, learning more than I would have from the classes alone.
