Student Pharmacist​, E. Michael Murphy, Inaugurated as President of National ​Student Pharmacist​ Organization

E. Michael MurphyE. Michael Murphy, a third-year student pharmacist​ at The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy, was inaugurated as the​ national​ ​p​resident of the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP).

“As the APhA-ASP National President I will uphold the values of student pharmacists and promote the mission of APhA-ASP,” said Murphy. “ This will be accomplished by increasing the support structure for student pharmacists, improving patient care through interprofessional collaboration, and advancing the profession globally.”

In addition to his presidential duties, Murphy is active in advocacy to advance the profession of pharmacy.

“Pharmacists and student pharmacists are a support structure for a patient to ensure they receive the most optimal personalized care so that patient can live a happy and fulfilling life. APhA-ASP is a support structure for student pharmacists to ensure they receive the best education, professional growth, and advancement of the profession so that they can be the most knowledgeable and accessible healthcare providers for their community. It is from this viewpoint of the organization that I can see the great benefit to students’ involvement in its activities and programming.”

APhA-ASP is a national organization of student pharmacists that aims to provide opportunities for professional growth, to improve patient care, and to envision and advance the future of pharmacy. Murphy’s additional leadership roles with APhA-ASP have included the APhA Carl F. Emswiller Summer Internship in Association Management, Region 4 Delegate, Ohio State Chapter President-elect, P1 (First-year) Liaison, and Undergraduate Liaison.

Murphy received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences from The Ohio State University and is slated to graduate with his Doctor of Pharmacy in 2018. He is originally from ​Columbus, OH.
