Volunteer Opportunity

The hospitals in Franklin County who participate in the Central Ohio Healthcare Preparedness Coalition are conducting a full scale, mass casualty disaster exercise.

The event date has been set for April 4, 2017 and will run from 7 am to approximately 4 pm.
This event will be held rain or shine.
The purpose of this exercise is to test and evaluate emergency response plans of Columbus hospitals, law enforcement, fire/EMS along with local and state agencies. This exercise will be the largest exercise ever conducted in Central Ohio with hundreds of participating responders. Your assistance is needed to help make Central Ohio better prepared.
Volunteers play a significant role in ensuring the success of an event by creating a “realistic” exercise environment. Although the details of the scenario cannot be disclosed, efforts are now underway to recruit volunteer actors to portray accident victims. These individuals will be moulaged (applied make-up) to simulate injured victims. The majority of these roles will be scripted to aid in character development and role-play. All volunteers must be at least 15 years of age to participate. A firm commitment is requested when registering for this exercise; however, if you find that you will not be able to participate, please contact Volunteer Coordinators Mary Ann Janning (maryannjanning@franklincountyohio.gov) at 614-525-3608 or Sara Jones (sarajones@franklincountyohio.gov) at 614-525-3018.
Volunteers will report to Columbus Crew’s Mapfre Stadium (One Black & Gold Blvd, Columbus, OH 43211) no later than 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 4th, 2017. There is free parking at the stadium. After registration, participants will receive their assignments, moulage applications, volunteer briefings and safety instructions. Exercise play begins promptly at 9:15 a.m. Throughout the morning, “victims” will be triaged and transported to participating locations by COTA bus and by EMS. Lunch will be provided. At the conclusion of the exercise, all volunteers will be returned to Mapfre Stadium where they will check-out with the Volunteer Coordinator and be released.
Thank you for your interest in participating in this very important community event. We look forward to seeing you.
